Uppsala Innovation Centre (UIC) has secured a spot on the prestigious list of Europe’s top incubators, published by Financial Times and Statista. Ranking 30th among 150 leading incubators in Europe and in the top three in the Nordic region, UIC strengthens its position as a key hub for startups and growth companies.

The ranking, Europe’s Leading Start-up Hubs, is based on a comprehensive analysis of incubator and accelerator performance, taking into account factors such as company growth, investments, and entrepreneurs’ experiences. UIC’s recognition at this level highlights the incubator’s significant role in developing competitive companies with international potential.
“We have a successful working model where we engage with companies over an extended period, always prioritizing the entrepreneur’s best interests and tailoring our support to their needs,” says Niclas Stjernberg, CEO of UIC.
Among the incubators included in Vinnova’s national incubator program, UIC ranks first. This program serves as a quality assurance for incubators receiving state funding to support their operations.
Strong Support for Startups and Regional Development
For over 20 years, UIC has played a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation by providing startups and growth companies with access to business development programs, experienced business coaches, and a robust network of investors and industry partners.
“This recognition is proof that we create real value for entrepreneurs and that tomorrow’s leading Swedish companies are being born in Uppsala. We offer a structured and customized path forward for startups across all industries, and our close collaboration with industry, academia, the public sector, and investors acts as a catalyst for innovation and success,” says Niclas Stjernberg
UIC’s unique model and broad industry reach, combined with strong ties to Uppsala University and SLU, have created an environment where startups can develop and scale up more quickly. The incubator also boasts an extensive international network, providing entrepreneurs with access to new markets and capital.

Uppsala Strengthens Its Position as an Innovation Hub
UIC’s inclusion in Financial Times’ ranking is not only a success for the incubator—it also reinforces Uppsala’s position as a leading innovation ecosystem, home to business development organizations that foster globally competitive companies. A significant portion of the ranking criteria was based on feedback from alumni, both regarding their time in the incubator and their continued development afterward.
“We’ve had the privilege of working with entrepreneurs who are at the forefront of their fields, open to new ideas, and driven to make their innovations benefit society at large. I am incredibly proud of our team at UIC, who, year after year, have been dedicated, professional, and skilled at their craft—leading to this well-earned recognition,” says Niclas Stjernberg.
For startups in Uppsala, this means access to a world-class incubator, increasing their chances of attracting capital, building strong teams, and expanding internationally. It also enhances Uppsala’s appeal as a city for entrepreneurship and business development.
UIC’s ranking on Financial Times’ list is a testament to the incubator’s strong impact and importance for entrepreneurs both locally and nationally. With a growing innovation ecosystem in Uppsala and a strong global network, UIC continues to provide startups with the best possible conditions for success.
