UIC company Veltio Pharma has been awarded the SKAPA Prize in Uppsala County for its innovative technology, which could help address an important challenge in drug development. The SKAPA Prize recognizes innovative entrepreneurs with strong growth potential and the ability to contribute to sustainable societal development.
Veltio Pharma is developing a resource-efficient formulation platform based on porous algal cellulose. The technology is designed to improve the absorption of poorly soluble drugs, a challenge that affects the development and efficacy of many pharmaceuticals.
The innovation was developed by Professor Albert Mihranyan, founder of Veltio Pharma. Together with CEO Stina Lundgren and the team, he is working to bring the technology closer to market.
The SKAPA Prize is one of Sweden’s largest innovation prizes and is awarded to innovators who have developed novel products and services with the potential to drive growth.
Veltio Pharma is participating in UIC Accelerate, a business development program for innovative startups and growth companies looking to develop their businesses and prepare for continued growth.

The SKAPA prize is Sweden’s largest innovation prize and has been awarded annually for more than 30 years. The prize is awarded at both county and national level. Its purpose is to recognize and provide financial support to innovative individuals, enabling them to continue developing their innovations.
Governor Stefan Attefall and Camilla Ahlsson, Head of Almi’s Uppsala office, presented the awards at a ceremony at Uppsala Castle. The jury included representatives from Almi, the Swedish Inventors’ Association, Region Uppsala, and the County Administrative Board of Uppsala.
