Using sound imperceptible to human ears to solve complex industrial problems is precisely what Infrasonik has specialized in. Through innovative infrasound technology, the company is revolutionizing industrial processes in cooling and drying—embarking on a journey that is both groundbreaking and filled with valuable lessons and partnerships.
The visionary behind the technology
Infrasonik was founded by Mats Olsson, a visionary who saw the potential of generating high-intensity infrasound to create powerful airflows. Mats is not only the inventor of this technology but also a central figure in the company’s success. His ability to see opportunities where others see obstacles has inspired the entire team and laid the foundation for what Infrasonik is today. CEO Helen Mattsson highlights Mats Olsson’s significance:
– Mats is an incredible person, a visionary who always sees opportunities and finds creative solutions. He creates his own reality and convinces the rest of us to believe in his visions. Much of his personality is reflected in this company that we are now taking to the next level, says Helen.

Innovation beyond the audible
The technology generates airflows with particle speeds of up to 75 meters per second—the equivalent of two hurricanes. This capability allows for energy-efficient and rapid cooling or drying of materials—methods that have garnered significant attention in heavy industries.
The company’s biggest achievement is its collaboration with SSAB, where Infrasonik’s solution has proven to be a key component in cooling steel with precision. Thanks to the technology, SSAB has been able to develop new processes that were previously impossible.

The prototype workshop – a key success factor
A crucial success factor is key figure Johan Åhling, a designer, and his mechanical workshop, which also houses Infrasonik’s office.
– Without the ability to practically build and test prototypes, achieving the technical advances we have made would not be possible. For example, we have a full-scale prototype for SSAB in our lab, which allows us to test various design parameters, Helen explains.
Guidance that paved the way to breakthroughs
Infrasonik joined UIC’s accelerator program and soon found the right coach, Andreas Lifvendahl, who helped them structure their operations and focus on core applications—cooling and drying. This focus was crucial to avoid spreading resources too thin. Andreas also assisted in other areas, such as filling the CEO role at Infrasonik.
– For a long time, we deliberated over how to handle the CEO position since Mats is 84 years old, and I have young children. I felt it might not be the right timing in my life to take on that role. But Andreas motivated me to take the step, simplifying it by saying that the role involved tasks I was already doing. I am truly grateful for his encouragement, Helen shares.
Business coach Andreas Lifvendahl also guided the company through complex negotiations with major clients and encouraged them to bet on growth.
– Andreas is very skilled at challenging our perception of reality and supplementing it with additional perspectives and scenarios. For example, we initially focused on the risk of pursuing an overly aggressive growth plan, and he countered with a risk scenario involving development proceeding too slowly, which could lead to a gradual decline in the business. That might result in losing talent and failing to build a customer pipeline, Helen continues.
Through UIC’s network, Infrasonik also connected with Anders Werme, who has held leadership positions at SSAB and ArcelorMittal.
– Anders has been incredibly helpful in understanding the production process, segmenting the market, and reaching new customers. His network and expertise have been invaluable, says Helen Mattsson.
Continued global expansion ahead
Looking forward, Infrasonik envisions further expansion within the industry, aiming to establish itself as a global player in infrasound technology. With new projects underway and a growing network of collaborators, the company is poised to tackle even greater challenges. Recently, Infrasonik welcomed two external board members, Gunnar Sundqvist and Carola Pustelli, who will support the company in its next phase.
With strong innovation drive, a dedicated founder, and support from UIC, Infrasonik has demonstrated that groundbreaking ideas can become reality—and fundamentally transform the industry.
