UIC has strengthened its team with Wing Cheng, a senior business developer whose journey spans from the research world in Uppsala to leading roles in both publicly listed companies and startups. Wing has a unique blend of bureaucratic precision and entrepreneurial drive, and he has already made a mark in the startup world as a business coach, investor, and CEO.

“Startups are my passion, and UIC Accelerator is the perfect platform to make a difference. I look forward to helping companies reach their goals with both structure and warmth,” says Wing Cheng, Business Developer and Program Manager at UIC Accelerator.

In his new role, Wing will lead UIC Accelerator, a program that supports mature startups with business development, networking, and expert knowledge. His experience from organizations such as the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Immuneed, Biovica, and as a co-founder of Strike Pharma gives him a unique ability to understand the challenges startups face – and how to overcome them.

From Research to the Startup World

Wing Cheng’s career began in molecular biology, with doctoral studies in clinical immunology in Uppsala, but it didn’t take long before his curiosity led him to new areas.

After working at Läkemedelsverket and EMA, where he specialized in regulations for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, his interest in health economics grew. This led him to spend five years at the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV), where he evaluated pharmaceuticals from a health economic perspective to determine whether they were worth being used by the state and regions. From his roles at these agencies, he became an expert in combining health economics and regulatory perspectives – a unique competence that few others in the startup world can offer.

From Bureaucracy to Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital – Wing Helps Startups Grow

Wing wanted to try the industry side and took roles as a Regulatory Manager, Research Director, and Market Access Manager. At Biovica, a smaller publicly listed company, he led QA and Market Access. There, he developed a broad understanding of small business operations and what investors and the market look for when deciding to invest. He took the step into entrepreneurship as CEO of Strike Pharma, an experience that shaped his passion for supporting startups.

Wing is also an engaged investor and was awarded “Engagement of the Year” at Connectdagen. The motivation: “By providing both high competence and great warmth, Wing creates a safe atmosphere that is appreciated by companies, investors, partners, and employees.” It’s clear that he leaves a lasting impression.
